Royal Marines with the Fleet Protection Group pictured in 2002 aboard HMS Cardiff while training for ship boarding operations as part of the Multinational Interception Force (MIF). The MIF 's mission was to prevent the Iraqi regiment from receiving smuggled oil and other embargoed items. The 8 FPG Royal Marines stationed on HMS Cardiff carried out a number of Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) operations aboard merchant vessels in the Persian Gulf.
