A pair of Royal Marines conduct visit board search and seizure (VBSS) training aboard HMS Monmouth, October 2017.
The Royal Marines are part of HMS Monmouth's 'Green Team', the Royal Marines element of a boarding operation, with 'Blue Team' drawn from Monmouth's ship's company. In a typical operation, Green Team secures the objective, which allows Blue Team to interview the crew and search the vessel. Boarding may take place via Rigid Infaltable Boats (RIB) and/or via fast-rope from helicopters.
S Squadron 43 Commando specialise in shipboarding operations. As seen here, they may be armed with L119A1 carbines. S Squadron is in the process of moving from 43 Commando to Juliet Company of 42 Commando, under plans to covert 42 CDO to a Maritime Operations Commando (MCO).
