Special Forces On London Streets After Paris Attacks
16.11.2015
British Special Forces have been deployed to London as part of a security operation in response to Friday's terrorist attacks in Paris.
According to the Telegraph, members of the Special Reconnaissance Regiment (SRR) have been brought in to carry out surveillance at key sites.[1] The elite undercover soldiers, who will be in plainclothes and unarmed, will be on the lookout for any suspicious activity. Armed plainclothes officers with the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) will also be out in force, as will their unformed colleagues.
Tabloid, The Express, reports that the 22nd Special Air Service (SAS) are also operating in an undercover role in the capital.[2] They are reportedly on standby to counter any threat and to act in an undercover surveillance role.
In June this year, London's security forces tested their response to attacks of the type carried out by ISIS in Paris. Operation Strong Tower saw over a 1000 security personnel deploy around London in response to a string of simulated attacks. The response included armed officers from SCO19 and British Transport Police dealing with a hostage situation at a disused tube station.
