British special forces in Kabul fight back
17.04.2012
BBC News has reported that British special forces were involved in the fight back against Taliban insurgents who had attacked the city of Kabul on Sunday. NATO installations and other buildings, including the British Embassy, came under small arms and RPG fire in co-ordinated attacks by several groups of fighters who had infiltrated into the Afghan capital.
In response, Afghan forces, with the assistance of coalition units, retook a building that had been occupied by the Taliban, killing all of the insurgents inside. The BBC cited local sources saying that British special forces took part in the operation. The Telegraph newspaper cites eye witness reports of British and Norwegian special forces taking part in the operation to clear a high-rise building held by insurgents. It appears that coalition special forces may have helpED organise the counter-attack as well as providing supporting fire. These reports are at odds with the official line that Afghan security forces quelled the attacks without NATO help.
