Inquest for SBS Hero
25.05.2011
The inquest into the death of a Special Boat Service (SBS) hero has taken place.
The inquest, held yesterday, heard that Cpl Seth Stephens, 42, a Royal Marine and member of the SBS, was shot dead while taking part in a raid on a compound on July 1st 2010. The SBS, along with other forces, including Afghani troops, were airlifted into action by Chinook helicopters. During the operation, Cpl Stephens' group became pinned down by enemy fire. In an act of extreme bravey, Cpl Stephens climbed a scaling ladder in order to see over a wall and provide covering fire for his colleagues. It was then that he was killed by an insurgent's bullet.
The inquest's coroner recorded a verdict of unlawful killing while on active service.
